The incumbent will also provide guidance in modification of current facilities and acquisition of equipment to conduct the above, if required. Key functions of this position include industrial microbiological consulting, auditing, training, test development and testing in compliance with professional and industry standards and Good Laboratory Practices / Good Manufacturing Practices. The incumbent is responsible for the development of sampling and test methods, validation of procedures, and successful implementation in internal or external laboratories. The incumbent must be able to perform routine microbiological laboratory activities, design experiments and perform experiments and procedures, accurately interpret and report microbiological and stability results, and recommend rational, compliant corrective, preventive, or quality improvement actions to team members and customers. The incumbent must also train and supervise others to perform routine microbiological laboratory activities. The incumbent is also responsible for the sterility assurance of medical devices, working with the contract sterilizers and corporate sterility assurance team members to validate and monitor the sterilization cycles. Responsibilities: Perform bioburden, ID’s, LAL, sterility, microbial limits, BI testing, preservative efficacies and related methods. Administer bioburden and dose audits programs to assure compliance as specified in ANSI/AAMI/ISO standards. Investigates any nonconformance and evaluate products sterility status. Contribute as a Health Care Sterility Assurance team member and provide support to sterility assurance requests and contribute as a contact for sterilization service providers. Develop, execute and maintain validation protocols for environmental controls and sterilization cycle validations. Responsible for the development of sampling and test methods, validation of procedures and successful implementation in contract laboratories. Provides leadership for conducting environmental monitoring and product sampling for contract laboratory testing. Analyze trends and document results. Identify and communicate opportunities to reduce and/or control bioburden. Participate in the Change Control Board meetings and provide assistance in change request that impact environmental controls and sterility assurance. Assess contract suppliers’ quality systems to verify their conformance to accepted standards and practices. Train and supervise an assistant to perform routine environmental monitoring activities. Review environmental monitoring data to determine if specification requirements have been met. Provide consulting and training in environmental controls for gowning and hygiene awareness. Understand manufacturing processes and product end use. Keep current on appropriate standards and guidelines. Evaluate the bioburden impact of supplier changes. Order supplies, perform and record equipment calibration and validation, schedule tests, and perform other routine day to day microbiological lab activities, including preparation of microbiological samples, controls and media. Assist Research and Operations with cleaning and sanitization procedure review and development, validation, out of specification investigations, and provide guidance to assure that product quality will consistently meet consumers expectations, corporate standards, and regulatory requirements and that problems/complaints are appropriately identified, corrected and/or prevented in future production. Work with project teams and team members to develop stability testing protocols for drugs and devices, execute protocols in internal facilities, interpret results, predict tentative or confirm expiration dates, report results and compliance status. Attend training sessions and auditing team update meetings as requested. Plan and conduct assigned internal quality audits per the approved audit schedule. Meet with responsible department team leads/designees to discuss findings. Submit audit plans and documented findings to quality management per procedure. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology. A minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial or contract microbiological laboratory experience.
